Cycling & Walking

The Vendee has put in place an impressive network of cycling paths that approaches 1000km in length. The numerous circuits overlap the country along the coast of the Marais Poitevin and through many fields.

The tracks wind through open nature and their circuits always seem to end up on the quays of a port with pretty surroundings. A track of more than 150km runs south to north and this track gives all abilities a chance to enjoy the ride. The shade of the maritime wood pines and the green oaks, as well as the sea breeze aids the visitor during their excursions.

The large expanse of the Marais Poitevin marshland, which is open and mainly flat, gives the cyclist a chance to get back to nature and forget the stresses and strains of everyday life. The tracks make their way calmly around the canals and other channels before arriving at the magical abbey at Maillezais.

Bikes are available for hire, including helmets, locks and pumps.  Please ask for our rates.
